Travel HELL: Tatar Lady Detained at Notorious Heathrow Airport in Migrant Holding Pen Over Terror Fears

She flew to her friends' wedding in France but ended up in a migrant jail in London. The writer Radmila Khakova from Tatarstan accused Heathrow Airport staff of racism. She was detained without any explanations, the only possible reason could have been her appearance. She posted a photo of how she was dressed during her transfer in London, a typical travel outfit: a sweatshirt, jeans, and a puffer jacket. She says it wasn't elegant but neither was it illegal. Most likely, her Oriental face has something to do with the arrest. "I'm Tatar but looking Muslim is not a crime", says Khakova. Heathrow Airport, where she was detained, is the busiest airport in Europe and a likely target for a terrorist attack. The local bureaucratic machine is supposed to be overly cautious. But the airport security service isn't as vigilant as you might think. They hired a repeat offender. Mohammud served five years for rape and terrorism and then was hired and managed to work five days at the Airport before the staff realized his papers were fake. It happened last week. How could that happen when even one's appearance can trigger the security guards? The Russian Foreign Ministry said that it might be the case of discrimination on ethnic grounds. The writer intends to demand a compensation. A diplomatic spat is likely to emerge. Anton Podkovenko with the details. - Did the embassy respond? - Our embassy did. We filed a complaint and now we wait for the British to respond. Radmila Khakova's post on Facebook already has hundreds of comments. People are trying to guess what could've seemed suspicious to the Heathrow staff. For example, she had no luggage. But it was just a two-day trip. Radmila Khakova, writer: "I just want to understand what happened. Did I violate anything? Was the punishment really necessary? I was definitely punished and it felt nasty, offensive, and painful". Upon her return from France, Radmila filled out a form in Heathrow writing that she'd never been to London. She admits her mistake. She was here on her way to France. Technically, it was the transit area, not the city. Radmila claims that she instantly corrected her error and tried to find out whether she could after all go to London to spend her 24-hour layover in a hotel. Those who have an American Visa, like she did, are usually allowed to do that. Radmila was told that the issue is being worked on, meanwhile, she was nearly taken into custody. Alexander Shatilov, political analyst: "Britain used to have colonies and has always had a short way with foreigners especially when they belong to another race and ethnicity. We saw Britain at its best". Radmila spent three hours locked in a room at the Airport. For some reason, they woke her up every hour. Finally, they took her to a "migrant jail". Radmila Khakova, writer: "I couldn't imagine I would end up in jail or that closed migrant center where they took me. I was detained and spent almost 24 hours there. They asked me if I were happy, several times. I felt like they were mocking me". Radmila was deported with her own tickets, her passport confiscated until her final destination point and stamped accordingly. Shortly before we went on air, we received a response from the Russian embassy in London. "The embassy is informed. We filed a complaint with the relevant British authorities. We're waiting for their response". Let's talk common sense. What could make the Heathrow staff act this way? Perhaps they were cautious. In the context of a permanent Islamist terrorist threat an Oriental girl could seem suspicious. Alexander Nekrasov, journalist: "Currently, London has enhanced its security due to the threat of terrorist attacks. And even though I feel sorry for the Russian girl I don't think that her case is a case of some special aggression towards her specifically, or even Russia in this case because such accidents happen almost daily in Heathrow. But the fact that she was mishandled changes the whole situation". Perhaps Migrational Policy is to blame? But it's not like Britain is suffering from a refugee invasion. Or is the notorious European tolerance beginning to show the signs of strain? Alexander Shatilov, political analyst: "We're currently in a state of a sanctions war. The "small foul" strategy might be used against our citizens. It's used in soccer in order to drive a player mad and provoke them to break the rules and make mistakes, especially in a foreign land". Radmila has already written to the British Council and the British embassy in Russia. Now she's going to write a letter to the mayor of London and hire a lawyer saying she's got some unresolved issues with the London border control. Anton Podkovenko on racism in the London airport.
