American Terrorist Demands Washington Blow Up Crimean Bridge...Oh Wait He’s a Journalist

This may be interpreted as madness, or an ugly manifestation of low-quality journalism, said the Russian President's Press Secretary, and it's hard to disagree, with Dmitry Peskov, who spoke about an article, or more precisely, an aggressive propaganda piece in the Washington Examiner, an American publication. Its author, Tom Rogan, has proposed to literally blow up the Crimean Bridge. That's how Ukraine should respond to his revelation, by launching air strikes against the bridge in a manner that would render it at least temporarily impassable and, I quote, send a signal to Moscow. Well, he proposed mitigating the risk of casualties by those traversing it. Humane, no? We could applaud him for that. But seriously, I can't wrap my head around it. A detailed combat marching order disguised as a news or opinion piece. In an American media outlet. And a rather predictable response from Russia: Dmitry Peskov said it makes sense for law enforcement agencies to pay attention. It didn't take long – they did. They also discovered that the owner of the Washington Examiner has a very intriguing bio. Anton Podkovenko reporting. - Hello, Anton. - Hello. - Is it true? Offspring of a Nazi? - Well, if not of a Nazi, then at least of a German with Russophobic views. There's not a single photo on the web of Karl Anschutz, the grandfather of US billionaire Philip Anschutz, the founder of the Washington Examiner. Karl was a Volga German born in Samara, and in 1939 he emigrated to Kansas. There's no guessing as to why he was drawn to America ahead of WWII. Armen Gasparyan, historian: "Among an absolute majority of those Germans there was, to put it mildly, no love lost not only for the political system that existed then in the USSR, but also for the Russian people in particular. Even the defeat in WWII had no effect whatsoever for an overwhelming majority of those emigrants because their rhetoric did not change and as we see today, the grandchildren of those people are up to exactly the same." Philip Anschutz grew up in Kansas where his father was drilling for oil. Philip joined his business. He made his first million when an oil well exploded and Anschutz bought up the burned-down neighboring plots on the cheap. He founded the Washington Examiner as a rival to the renowned Washington Post, It didn't work out, but he's an ambitious man. And the Crimean Bridge is a hot subject. Alexander Asafov, political scientist: "He's trying to be to the right of the right. To attract attention to his publication, he often indulges in such headlines, and in America the Russophobic, anti-Russian attitude is officially supported by the media". In Russia, the so-called liberal press outlets subserviently reprinted the Crimean Bridge article, even though it contains an open call for aggression, which is a crime. Svetlana Petrenko, Investigative Committee: "The Committee has launched a criminal probe into the American citizen and journalist, Tom Rogan, who is suspected of public calls to terrorism on the territory of the Russian Federation He has posted an article on his website in which he effectively called on Ukraine to blow up the Crimean Bridge. The article was soon reposted on the website of the American publication, the Washington Examiner. Also, in regard to the editor of the weekly magazine, a pre-investigation review is underway". The Russian embassy in the US has already requested explanations. Does the piece reflect the opinion of columnist Tom Rogan, or is the entire editorial staff provoking Ukraine to destroy the bridge? "Such publications do not fit into the ethical framework of journalism. We expect explanations from the Washington Examiner as to the extent to which this article reflects their editorial policy". Anti-Russian hysteria has been going on in the States for years. It's all politics. And in case of Philip Anschutz could heritage be involved too? Armen Gasparyan, historian: "We all understand that a reasonable person will never utter such nonsense. I think this is genetic after all". The Washington Examiner article is essentially a primitive provocation, and the security of the Crimean Bridge is top notch. By the way, even the UK's Telegraph called the grand crossing a geopolitical victory for Russia. Much softer rhetoric than by the publication owned by Philip Anschutz, an American billionaire with German roots. - Anton Podkovenko on the madness in US media.
